Next-Gen Mattresses - Is a Simba Actually Worth the Money?
If you’ve ever walked around a mattress showroom pretending you know the difference between “medium-firm support” and “orthopaedic airflow technology”, you’re not alone.
For years we just bought traditional mattresses the old-fashioned way - lie on one for 30 seconds in a brightly lit shop, awkwardly nod at the salesperson who eyeballs you intently, and somehow make a £1,000+ decision that you'll likely regret.
This time, we decided to try something completely different: a next-generation hybrid mattress delivered in a box.
Specifically, the Simba Hybrid Pro Mattress from Simba Sleep.
And honestly? We get the hype now.
Ordering a Mattress Online Felt Strange… Until It Arrived
There’s still something slightly bizarre about ordering a mattress online.
A huge super king mattress arriving vacuum-packed into a surprisingly manageable box feels like it shouldn’t work - but it absolutely does.
Once delivered, you simply:
- Drag the box into the bedroom
- Cut the packaging open
- Watch the mattress rapidly expand like some kind of science experiment
Within a couple of hours, it was basically ready to sleep on.
It’s genuinely one of those products that feels more impressive in person than in the adverts.
We Saved Money With a Certified Refurbished Simba
One of the biggest surprises was discovering Simba’s certified refurbished mattresses.
Instead of paying full retail price, we picked up a refurbished Super King Hybrid Pro, and to be honest, if nobody had told us it was refurbished, we never would have known.
It looked brand new.
It smelt brand new.
It felt brand new.
The added bonus is it felt like a slightly better environmental choice too — extending the life of returned mattresses instead of everything immediately becoming waste.
You can often find Simba refurbished mattresses through their official eBay outlet, where they regularly run auctions with surprisingly large discounts. If you’re patient and don’t need a mattress immediately, there are some serious bargains to be had.
If you want the easier route with delivery options and guarantees, buying direct from Simba Sleep is definitely the more convenient option.
Super King Size Is a Dangerous Upgrade
We went for the Super King Hybrid Pro, and this might have ruined normal beds forever.
The extra width makes an enormous difference.
No more fighting for duvet space.
No more waking each other up turning over.
No more balancing on the edge of the mattress like a mountaineer.
Combined with the hybrid design, the mattress has this strange “hugging” effect where it feels supportive without feeling overly soft or sinky.
It’s hard to describe properly until you sleep on one for a few nights.
Does the Simba Actually Sleep Cooler?
One thing we were sceptical about was all the “temperature regulation” marketing.
Every mattress brand claims to have revolutionary cooling technology now.
But so far, Simba has actually been noticeably good.
Over winter it paired brilliantly with a thick duvet and stayed cosy without overheating.
Now temperatures are warming up, it still feels surprisingly breathable compared to older memory foam mattresses we’ve used in the past — especially ones that felt like sleeping on a radiator by 2am.
The Hybrid Pro uses layers of springs alongside foam, which probably helps airflow more than traditional full-memory-foam designs.
Is a Simba Mattress Worth the Money?
If you’re comparing it to a cheap standard sprung mattress, then yes — Simba mattresses are expensive.
But compared to traditional “premium” showroom mattresses, the pricing starts making a lot more sense.
Especially when you consider:
- Online delivery is incredibly easy
- No awkward showroom visits
- Long trial periods
- Excellent comfort
- Better temperature control
- Refurbished options can massively reduce the cost
For us, the refurbished route made it feel much easier to justify.
Would we go back to a traditional mattress now?
Probably not. We're super happy with the purchase.
Things Worth Considering Before Buying
A few things to keep in mind:
- They are heavy - especially Super King sizes, the delivery drivers offered to take it upstairs for us, very kind of them.
- You need space to let it expand properly, but you should already have this, if you're buying a new bed/mattress.
- Hybrid mattresses feel different to traditional spring mattresses at first
- The refurbished deals are amazing, but stock changes constantly, try purchase when you don't need it immediately.
If you’re the sort of person who needs to try 40 mattresses before deciding, you may still prefer a showroom.
But if you like convenience and hate shopping for mattresses as much as we do, the online approach is hard to beat.
Alternatives Worth Comparing
If you’re researching hybrid mattresses, it’s also worth comparing:
These all target slightly different comfort styles and price points, which makes for good comparison shopping before spending this sort of money.
